It was smooth sailing from the get go for the Longmeadow, Mass. native, who started on the 10th hole and birdied both the 14th and 17th to sit at 2-under at the midway point. He parred the next four holes before bogeying the fifth, and got himself back to -2 by carding a 4 on the par-5 seventh hole. A bogey on the ninth put him at -1 (71) for the afternoon.
Among the 10 golfers competing as individuals, Walthouse's third-round 71 was second-best on the day. Only Ohio State's Tee-k Kelly was better, as he shot a 3-under 69 in his final round.
Overall for the NCAA Regional, Walthouse finished +12 (75-82-71=228) and was 10th of the 10 individuals.
In addition to Kelly - who advances as the top individual out of the Regional - Illinois (team champion), Florida, Arkansas, Florida State and Baylor will move on to the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
