Porter Advances to Finals, Osment Breaks Davidson Record

NCAA SEMIFINAL RESULTS

EUGENE, Ore. – VCU Senior Kiara Porter continues to chase history in Tracktown USA. On Thursday night, she crossed the line at 52.21 in the second semifinal heat of the 400 meters. Her time earned her a spot in the finals on Saturday which is slated for 6:05 p.m. EST, and will air on ESPN2.

"It is such an honor running with such a talented field and at the historic Hayward Field," said Porter. "I'm beyond blessed to have made it to another NCAA 400 meter final and so excited to compete on Saturday with VCU across my chest."  

With her spot in the finals, Porter continued to add to her accolades as she automatically earns First-Team All-American honors, etching her name in the VCU record book as the first athlete to earn five All-American honors. 

"I am so proud and happy for Kiara. She's a fighter," said head coach Jon Riley. "Words cannot explain how proud I am. She came to the meet with a goal to make it to the finals and that's what she did. She made me sweat a little, but it was worth it."

Davidson's Erin Osment concluded her impressive senior campaign with a 14th-place finish in the 10,000-meter event, earning second-team All-America status, at the NCAA Track & Field Championship Thursday night at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
 
Osment clocked a 34:14.25 to finish 14th out of 20 runners in the event. Osment's time was not only a career-best, but also it also set a new Davidson record. The Atlanta, Ga., native has now set and broke her program record in the event five times this year.
 
Osment became the program's second All-American with her 14th-place finish.
 
Osment, who became just the third Davidson woman to qualify for the NCAA track championships, concludes a stellar four-year career with a pair of Atlantic 10 titles and her named etched throughout the Davidson record book.
