Atlantic 10 Has Strong Showing At NCAA Cross Country Championship

TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The cross country season came to a close as the men's and women's 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championship was held Monday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.

Megan Hogan of George Washington capped off her incredible season with an eighth-place finish out of 253 runners. Hogan finished the 6k Laver Gibson Championship Course in a time of 20:19.6; 15 seconds faster than her time at last year's championship. The senior from Ballston Spa, N.Y. achieved All-America status for the second time in as many years.

This season, in addition to her All-American honors, Hogan won her second consecutive Atlantic 10 Individual Champion title, took third place at the Mid-Atlantic Regional and was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. Amy Van Alstine of Richmond, who qualified for the women's Championship after coming in seventh at the Southeast Regional Championship, finished in 67th place in a time of 21:06.4.

Richmond's men's team, who received an at-large bid, finished 24th out of 31 teams. The Spiders were led by redshirt-senior Matt Llano, who finished in 37th place out of 246 runners, in 30:35.8. Teammate Andrew Benford, Atlantic 10 Men's Performer of the Year, was the next Spider to cross the finish line, placing 63rd with a time of 30:54.7.

Dayton's Chris Lemon finished the 10k in 30:57.8, earning him an 84th-place finish.

Kevin McDonnell of Saint Joseph's placed 173rd with a time of 31:53.3.
