FAIRFAX, VA. – The Dayton Flyers claimed the program’s first-ever Atlantic 10 Women’s Track and Field Championship on Sunday at George Mason Stadium. Dayton claimed its first championship with four gold medals.
The Flyers’ Jadyn Haywood defended her titles in the 100M and 200M, winning the 100M in 11.60 and the 200M in 24.08. Haywood was named Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning her two gold medals.
Duquesne finished in second with 109 points and VCU placed third with 96.5 points. Rhode Island, George Mason and Richmond placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. La Salle, Saint Joseph’s, George Washington and Saint Louis rounded out the standings.
Dayton’s Rebekah Conrad collected gold in the shot put, earning a first place finish of 13.76M. The Flyers also finished first in the 4x400M in 3:45.17 by Mariya Washington, Sydney Workman, Grace Felts and Simone Bessong.
Bessong was named Most Outstanding Rookie after winning bronze in the 100M and silver in the 200M. Dayton’s Kevin Gilhuly and Aaron Gordon were named Coaches of the Year after guiding the Flyers to the program’s first championship.
George Mason’s Abigail Weening earned Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning two gold medals and setting two new conference records. She won gold and broke the record in the high jump (1.79M) and heptathlon (5,433).
Duquesne finished in second behind Anna Rorrer’s two gold medals. She won gold in the 100M Hurdles (14.05) and 400M Hurdles (59.41). The Dukes added another gold medal from Rose Kuchera’s win in the triple jump (12.38M).
VCU’s third place finished was fueled by Jaliyah Person, who won gold in the 400M and in the 4x100 relay. She helped the 4x100M relay team of Mabel Alagbe, Asia Powell and Kamryn Monroe win in a time of :46.14. She also collected gold in the 400M in 54.76.
Ella Semple joined Weening as the second Patriot in setting a new record and winning gold. Semple broke the conference mark and finished first in the 5,000M in 16:04.36.
Other gold medalists included La Salle’s Gwenno Goode (10:08.08), Saint Joseph’s 4x800M relay team (Tess Crossan, Samantha Korck, Quinn O'Brien and Karin Dobiasch).
