VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Rhode Island men's team and the George Mason women's team lead the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship after day one at the Virginai Beach Sports Center. Four meet records were broken Friday during the opening day of competition
Through five scored events on the men’s side, the Rhode Island Rams lead the standings with 61 points, followed by the George Mason Patriots with 37 and VCU with 23. On the women’s side, George Mason leads with 46 points through six events, ahead of VCU (31) and Dayton (29).
Rhode Island’s Matthew Santy set a meet record in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.57 meters to win the event. The previous meet record of 7.46 meters was set by Xavier Shirley in 2022. Santy was followed by teammate Joachim Ennoo at 7.37 meters and VCU’s Destiny Ese at 7.14 meters.
In the men’s 5,000 meters, Rhode Island’s Nick Martin won in 13:55.10. Loyola (Ill.)’s Jake Phillips placed second in 14:02.65, and La Salle’s Charlie Rogers finished third in 14:08.68.
La Salle captured the men’s distance medley relay in 9:55.03 with Jacob Gardner, Evan Dias, Chanel Muir and Sean Cronin. Loyola (Ill.) finished second in 9:55.44, and Saint Joseph’s placed third in 9:55.57.
George Mason’s Walter Bannerman won the men’s pole vault at 5.05 meters. Teammate Nick DeWolfe cleared 4.65 meters for second, and Saint Louis’ Griffin Kimbrel was third at 4.51 meters.
VCU’s Troy McWilliams won the men’s weight throw with a mark of 19.83 meters. Saint Louis’ Tristan Boatman placed second at 18.95 meters, and Rhode Island’s Nathan Field finished third at 17.15 meters.
Through four events of the men’s heptathlon, Rhode Island’s Wyatt Lamell leads with 3,042 points, followed by George Mason’s Nick DeWolfe (2,814) and Rhode Island’s Damian Scouloukas (2,717).
On the women’s side, George Mason’s Ella Semple broke the meet record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:12.74. The previous meet record of 16:20.52 was set by Sunita Dannheim in 2020. La Salle’s Neve Moulai finished second in 16:40.76, and Loyola (Ill.)’s Eileen Seebon placed third in 16:50.23.
In the women’s 200-meter dash preliminaries, Dayton’s Jadyn Haywood ran 23.74 to break the meet record of 23.96 set by Lauryn Taylor in 2025.
Richmond set a meet record in the women’s distance medley relay, finishing in 11:29.82 with Brooke Reif, Gabrielle Cummings, Caroline Donohoe and Hallie Muniz. The previous meet record of 11:30.37 was set in 2024. Fordham finished second in 11:48.09, and Saint Joseph’s placed third in 11:52.04.
George Mason’s Kennedy Drish set a meet record in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 4.20 meters. The previous meet record of 4.02 meters was set by Chloe Taylor in 2025. Rhode Island’s Olivia Priest finished second at 3.75 meters, and George Mason’s Ella Marley Oare placed third at 3.75 meters.
In the women’s long jump, George Mason’s Shania Staats won with a mark of 5.93 meters. Richmond’s Molly Wise finished second at 5.88 meters, and VCU’s Iyana Braswell placed third at 5.86 meters.
Dayton’s Rebekah Conrad won the women’s weight throw with a mark of 18.98 meters. VCU’s Melissa Casiraghi placed second at 18.39 meters, and Desiree Akaolisa finished third at 18.13 meters.
Dayton’s Raegan Ernst won the women’s indoor pentathlon with 3,641 points. Fordham’s Leia Ruvo placed second with 3,602 points, and Duquesne’s Brandi Brozeski finished third with 3,526 points.
Competition resumes Saturday 10:00 am with track finals and additional field events scheduled throughout the day.
