WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Saint Joseph’s junior Julia Shearer as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week. George Washington junior CeCe Smith was named Pitcher of the Week, while George Mason freshman Alyssa Rangel earned Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for games played from Feb. 16 to Feb. 22.
 
Shearer shined at the USF invitational, leading Saint Joseph’s to a 3-2 record across five games at the event. The outfielder from Hatfield, Pa. slashes .583/.688/.833 over the course of the weekend, opening with a 2-for-2 performance that included a walk and an RBI against the host, South Florida. Shearer exploded for four hits against Boston College, recording two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored to help SJU earn its first victory against an ACC opponent since 2018. She added a hit, two walks, and three runs scored in the final day of action.
 
Smith dominated on the mound in three appearances over the weekend, earning two winning decisions in the process. The Atlanta native did not allow a single earned run over 13 innings, starting with a six-inning start at Winthrop where she struck out eight batters. Smith pitched a complete game shutout against Presbyterian on Saturday, allowing just two hits in the 2-0 victory. She concluded the weekend with a crucial strikeout in relief against Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday.
 
Rangel recorded her first career win with a complete game shutout against FDU on Friday, registering a career-best seven strikeouts. The San Antonio product allowed just one earned run in six innings of action the following day, striking out six batters to close out an impressive weekend with a 0.58 ERA.
