A-10 Indoor Track and Field Men's and Women's Championships Begins Friday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va – The Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships begin Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. It’s the third straight year Virginia Beach Sports Center will host the two-day A-10 Indoor Track & Field Championship.  

The Rhode Island men’s indoor track and field team is looking to defend its five straight A-10 Championships. In addition, George Mason, VCU, Fordham, Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis, Loyola Chicago, La Salle, Davidson and St. Bonaventure are competing for the men’s title.   

Rhode Island’s Joachim Ennoo has earned three Field Performers of the Week and currently holds the top triple jump mark in the A-10. The Rams also hold the top marks in the A-10 for six events: Alex Arbogast (60M), distance medley relay, Matt Santy (high jump and long jump), Theo Puterbaugh (shot put) and Ryan Tona (heptathlon). 

The Patriots, last year’s runner-up, hold the A-10's fastest time in the 60M Hurdles by Jayden Smith and the top mark in the pole vault by Walt Bannerman. Bannerman also set the A-10 record in the pole vault at last year’s championship (5.21M). 

On the women’s side, George Mason is vying to win back-to-back A-10 titles. The Patriots captured their first indoor title since 2014 at last year's championship. Also competing for the A-10 crown is VCU, Richmond, Rhode Island, Duquesne, Dayton, Fordham, La Salle, Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis, Davidson, Saint Joseph’s and George Washington. 

GM’s Ella Semple leads the conference in the 5000M and Kennedy Drish has the top mark in the pole vault. GM’s Kailynn Tyson sits atop the conference in the triple jump.  

Last year’s runner-up, VCU holds the top mark in the A-10 in five events. Asia Powell, Jaliyah Person and Aubree Harris hold the fastest times in the 60M, 400M and 60M Hurdles, respectively. Like Matalatala and Desiree Akaolis sit atop the conference in the shot put and weight throw, respectively.
