FAIRFAX – No. 5 Rhode Island took down No. 4 George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia Saturday night, 3-1. Rhode Island will face No.1 Saint Louis next Wednesday, November 11 in the semifinals.

The first half was tightly contested, with good scoring efforts on both sides to start. The Rams were able to break through first in the 33rd minute, when Lauren McDonald found the lower right quadrant of the net for the early advantage.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Rams began to apply serious pressure. Rhody was able to convert this pressure into two goals, first coming off a corner kick in the 55th, followed by a 56th minute blast from Courtney Poon.

George Mason did not go away without a fight, however. In the 61st minute, Gianna Chrapek gave the Patriots their first tally off a scramble in front of the net.

The lone goal was not enough to give Mason a comeback, and Rhode Island would go on to win by a score of 3-1.
