Dayton, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis, VCU Earn Weekly Indoor Track and Field Honors

WASHINGTON – Saint Louis sophomore Sam Lamaze and Rhode Island graduate student Joachim Ennoo received Atlantic 10 Under Armour Men’s Track and Field Performers of the Week, respectively. Ennoo’s freshman teammate Carson Dean was named Men’s Rookie of the Week.  

Saint Joseph’s junior Karin Dobiasch earned Under Armour Women’s Track Performer of the Week, while VCU redshirt junior Desi Akaolisa collected Women’s Field Performer of the Week. Dayton freshman Simone Bessong was tabbed as Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced on Tuesday, are for competitions from Jan. 12 – 18.  

Lamaze, a New York, NY native, broke his own Saint Louis program record in the 400 meters, winning the event at the Show-Me Showdown. Lamaze claimed gold with a time of 47.43, which is the top time in the A-10 and ranks 20th nationally this season. 

At the URI Invitational Saturday, Ennoo won the long jump event with a leap of 7.47 meters. Ennoo, a Leominister, MA native, also claimed first in the triple jump with a mark of 15.37 meters. His long jump mark ranks tied for 33rd in the nation.  

Dean claimed gold in the pole vault event for Rhode Island at the URI Invitational Saturday. The West Warwick, RI native won the event with a mark of 4.75M. Dean’s distance ranks tied second in the conference.  

Dobiasch shattered Saint Joseph's indoor program record in the 800M with a 2:08.12 at the Quaker Invitational. She ran the fastest time in the conference this season, which also ranks 17th in Division I. Dobiasch earned first place and a meet record at the Quaker Invitational. 

Akaolisa reached a new personal record in the weight throw, reaching a distance of 18.57M. Akaolisa, a McKinney, TX native, placed third in the event. She also recorded a mark of 13.68M in the shot put, in which she finished eighth. Akolisa holds the best marks in the weight throw and shot put in the A-10.  

Bessong set a new personal record at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic in Indianapolis, finishing fourth in 200M. She set a PR of 24.28 in the 200M, which is the third fastest time in school history and the second fastest time in the conference this season. Bessong also placed fourth in the 60M event with a time of 7.66.
