ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University men's soccer graduate Umechi Akuazaoku, '25, has signed a professional contract with Sakaryaspor, a member of Turkey's 1. Lig, the second division of Turkish soccer.
Akuazaoku wasted no time making an impact, recording his first professional regular season goal on Sunday, Aug. 17. His goal in the 72nd minute proved to be the game-winner in Sakaryaspor's victory over Igdir F.K.
A native of Whitby, Ontario, Akuazaoku has appeared in both of Sakaryaspor's matches to begin the 2025 campaign.
Earlier this summer, he was invited to a trial with Fatih Karagümrük S.K., where he scored in a friendly against Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe.
Akuazaoku completed his Bonnies career last fall, appearing in 58 games with 36 starts. He finished with 33 career points, scoring 14 goals and adding five assists, including five game-winning goals.
