FAIRFAX, Va. -- The George Mason Men’s and the Massachusetts Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams lead in first place after the first day of the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
The Patriots tallied 64 points with Rhode Island trailing in second with 61. Massachusetts (24), Duquesne (20), VCU (18), Saint Louis (17), Davidson (10), Fordham (7), Loyola Chicago (7), and La Salle (6) round out the standings.
Behind the Minutewomen in the standings are VCU in second (29 points) and George Mason in third (28 points). Dayton (19), Loyola Chicago (16), Rhode Island (13), Richmond (10), Davidson (9), Duquesne (9), Saint Louis (8), La Salle (5) and Fordham (4) round out the standings after the first day.
George Mason’s lead was supported by top finishes in the long jump, pole vault, 3000-meter steeplechase and hammer. Geni Roberts won gold in the long jump (7.58M). Wesley Bond and Arsalan Yaqubi earned silver in the 3,000M steeplechase (8:43.50) and hammer (60.69M), respectively. Walt Bannerman collected bronze in the pole vault (4.70M).
One broken was record on Saturday behind Dayton’s Casey Bogues’ performance in the women’s javelin. She won gold and broke her own A-10 top mark with a distance of 53.12M. Bogues’ old mark was set in 2021 at 51.28M.
The Minutewomen maintain a lead in first from top finishes in the pole vault and hammer. Megan Frazee earned gold in the pole vault at 4.13M, and her teammate Chloe Taylor collected silver (3.98M). Ainsley Wiesner received bronze in the hammer (55.00M).
VCU’s John Casper won the men’s hammer throw with a distance of 62.57M. John Teachman of Davidson won gold in the men’s javelin with a mark of 63.34M. Rhode Island’s Mason Brubaker earned gold in the pole vault (5.00M) and Michael Norberg of Massachusetts won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:39.22. In the 10,000M, Robert Carew of Massachusetts earned gold in 30:24.48.
VCU’s Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir collected gold in the women’s hammer throw. She won the event with a distance of 67.22. Loyola Chicago’s Roisin Treacy won the women’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase in 10:21.56. Richmond’s Molly Wise earned a first-place finish in the long jump (6.26M).
Due to a lighting delay, the Women’s 10,000-Meter Run was moved to Sunday at approximately 9:15 a.m.
The Outdoor Track and Field Championship concludes on Sunday at 9 a.m. with the multi-events. The final event of the championship is the relays, which start at 2:10 p.m.
