WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - All three of Rhode Island's boats advanced to the C/D Semifinals of the 2025 NCAA Women's Rowing Championship Friday morning. The field was treated to quality conditions on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Overcast skies kept temperatures manageable, and a slight tailwind picked up as the day moved along, helping boats move quickly through the steady water.
VARSITY 8+
In Heat 4 of the Varsity 8+ flight, Rhode Island's team of stroke Hailey Pardi, Bella Bruno, Bethany Nordstrom, Nora Lake, Amanda Cubit, Emma Barnhart, Abigail Galayda, Brigid McShea and coxswain Ellie McGee posted a time of 6:48.331. Washington (6:13.449) took an early lead that it maintained throughout, holding off Virginia and Princeton, with all three boats gaining the A/B Semifinals.
UCF, Northeastern and URI all will compete in the C/D Semifinals on Saturday. Rhode Island will be in Saturday's second C/D semifinal on Saturday, along with Boston University, Harvard, UCF and Oregon State. URI will be in Lane 1. The top three boats will advance to Sunday's Upper Final, with the final two boats going to the Lower Final.
SECOND VARSITY 8+
The Second Varsity 8+ boat of stroke Jasmyn Hayes, Emma Larsh, Irma Accius, Emma Brookins, Liz Mayer, Sage Sabatino, Maddy Papik, Payton Klein and coxswain Evelyn Tabor finished in a time of 7:00.110. The top boats in the flight separated from the start, with Texas, Yale and Syracuse quickly establishing the pace. The Longhorns won in a time of 6:17.257, with Yale finishing 2.55 seconds later.
Dartmouth, Boston University and Rhode Island finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. All three boats moved on to the C/D Semifinals on Saturday. Rhody will race against Oregon State, Dartmouth, Rutgers and Northeastern in the first C/D Semifinal, with URI in Lane 6. The top three boats will advance to Sunday's Upper Final, with the remaining boats going to the Lower Final.
VARSITY 4+
A tailwind picked up by the time the Varsity 4+ team of Maia Hembruff, Anna Smith, Costanza Proietti, Ava Hohl and coxswain Lily Stasaitis took their place at the starting line. Rhode Island placed sixth in a time of 7:57.895.
It was a two-team race in the flight, as Yale and Texas went back-and-forth over the length of the course. Texas overtook Yale in the final 500 meters with a time of 7:03.603. Yale finished just 1.685 seconds off the pace, followed by Harvard (7:12.122) in third place.
Dartmouth, Northeastern and Rhode Island took spots 4-6 and will compete in Sunday's C/D Semifinals. Rhody will be in the second C/D Semifinal along with Penn, Dartmouth, Virginia and Boston University.
