WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Dayton sophomore Kyle McNally as its Under Armour Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Saint Joseph’s freshman Matthew Dubas received Rookie of the Week. Richmond graduate student Andrea Campodonico earned Women’s Player of the Week, while Rhode Island freshman Katharina Spieth received Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday, are for matches from April 1 to April 6.
McNally, a native of Algonquin, Ill., turned in a standout performance with a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles play. Competing at the No. 1 singles spot, McNally cruised past Saint Louis with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win. He then followed it with another commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory over Davidson. In doubles, McNally and teammate Brady Hussey shut out Saint Louis 6-0 before securing a 6-4 win over Davidson.
Dubas collected a win at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles for Saint Joseph’s in their match against Villanova. The Vancouver, British Columbia native defeated Villanova’s Will Monahan, 6-2, 6-1. He then partnered with teammate Santiago Valle to defeat Trey Fourticq and Cooper Gordon, 6-2.
Campodonico helped lead the Spiders to two wins over William & Mary and Delaware. On court two, she defeated W&M’s Alessandra Anghel, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Campodonico then teamed with Lara Bakhaya to defeat Hedda Gurholt and Inge Stange, 6-2, on the ace court. Campodonico, a Barquisimeto, Venezuela native, clinched a victory at No. 2 singles with a comeback win over Delaware’s Alina Vasilenko, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5. She and Bakhaya defeated Maryia Hrynashka and Paulina Jurkowska, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Spieth, from Stuttgart, Germany, won at No. 1 singles against Bryant. She defeated Bryant’s Natalia Vela, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
