Putnam, Dowd Earn Under Armour Baseball Player, Pitcher Accolades; Lujo Named Rookie Honoree

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference tabbed Davidson redshirt junior Eli Putnam as its Under Armour Baseball Player of the Week. Fordham sophomore Aidan Dowd was named Pitcher of the Week. Dayton freshman Rylan Lujo received Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Monday, are for games played from March 17 to 23. 

In a 3-1 week for Davidson, Putnam hit .765 (13 for 17) against NC State and VCU. Putnam, an infielder, was 4 for 5 in each game versus the Rams. In the first contest of the VCU series, Putnam slugged two home runs and two doubles with seven RBI. In the series finale, Putnam crushed three home runs with four RBI. The Cabin John, Md. native finished the four games with a .722 OBP, 1.765 SLG and 2.487 OPS.  

Dowd pitched a six-inning shutout win for Fordham over Massachusetts. The Fairfield, Conn. native struck out a career-best eight batters and walked two in the 6-0 Fordham victory. Dowd surrendered four hits across a career-best six scoreless innings.  

Lujo, a Coconut Creek, Fla. native, compiled a 14 for 23 performance in Dayton’s five games against Ohio University, Bowling Green State University and Saint Louis. Against the Bobcats, Lujo went 5 for 6 with two home runs, two walks, four RBI and four runs scored. He added another home run versus the Falcons and the first game against the Billikens. Lujo finished the five-game stretch with a .609 BA, four home runs and a 1.884 OPS.
