WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond senior Maggie Doogan as the Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Louis freshman Jahda Denis was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Dec. 8-14.
Doogan led the Spiders to a tremendous bounce back victory after falling to Fairfield last week, cruising past Liberty on Saturday, 76-61. A forward from Broomall, Pa., Doogan poured in a game-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, knocking down two 3-pointers and all four of her free throw attempts. She stuffed the stat sheet across the court, adding seven rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and a block. Doogan currently averages a team-best 23.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, leading the A-10 in both categories.
Denis put together a strong performance against SEC opponent Missouri on Sunday, earning her second consecutive A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade. A guard from Montreal, Canada, Denis scored 18 points on a 7-of-13 shooting day, shooting 4-of-8 from behind the arc. She added five rebounds, three assists, and a steal as well. The Billikens fought valiantly in the loss to the Tigers, cutting a 22-point third quarter deficit to eight points before falling 82-66.
