SAINT LOUIS — Saint Louis graduate student Quenten Blair’s first half penalty kick goal proved enough for No. 1 seed Saint Louis on Wednesday, Saturday in the Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens (10-2-6) advanced to the championship final with the victory, where they will host No. 3 Dayton at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 16. Saint Louis improved to 7-0-5 at Hermann Stadium this season.
Saint Louis nearly scored in the 25th minute but couldn’t remain onside. The Billikens broke through a few minutes later, though, drawing a penalty kick which Quinten Blair converted to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
The Billiken defense suffocated the Davidson offense, blocking two of the Wildcats’ four shots in the first half. Saint Louis goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel didn’t need to make a save until the 50th minute, his only stop of the evening.
Saint Louis outshot Davidson 8-6, allowing just one shot on goal by the Wildcats. The Billikens tallied six corner kicks while Davidson earned four.
Dayton and Saint Louis will square off for the second time this season, tying 0-0 in the regular season meeting between the teams.
