WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Fordham graduate student David Vargas as its Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, while George Mason sophomore Ryan Serbia was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week. Fordham sophomore Karina Kanary and George Mason senior Peyton Brehmer earned Co-Women's Performer of the Week. Kanary’s freshman teammate Campbell Stever collected Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Tuesday and are for competitions from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5.

Vargas crushed Fordham records in both the one-meter and three-meter dive against Towson. He won both events, while posting NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks. Vargas, from Mexico City, Mexico, posted a score of 382.43 points in the one-meter dive, breaking the 2005 record of 349.20 by Donnie Callara. He then smashed the three-meter dive record with a score of 412.58, topping Callara's 2008 mark of 345.45. Both his one-meter and three-meter scores are the best in Division I.

Serbia, who didn't compete last year with a redshirt season, won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.34). He also placed second in both the 200-yard breaststroke (2:03.61) and 200-yard IM (1:56.16), while helping the Patriots take the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.41). Sebia, an Edmond, Okla. native, was crucial in George Mason’s 152-110 win over Old Dominion. His 200-breast time is the fastest in the A-10, while his 100-breast is second in the conference.

Kanary led the way for Fordham on Friday, winning three individual events in a dual meet win over Towson. She took first in the 100-breast (1:05.40), 200 breaststroke (2:21.55) and the 200 individual medley (2:08.56) Kanary was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.10). The Buda, Texas native holds the third fastest time in the conference in the 100 and 200-breast.

Brehmer won both the 50-yard freestyle (23.84) and 100-yard freestyle (57.25) for the Patriots. She contributed to the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:46.89) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.73) teams. Brehmer, a Boerne, Texas native, was pivotal in GM’s defeat of ODU. Her 50-free time ranks second in the A-10 and her 100-fly ranks fourth.

In Stever's Rams' debut, she took first place in both distance freestyle events against Towson. The Ocala, Fla. native posted times of 10:28.58 in the 1000-yard freestyle and a time of 5:08.76 in the 500-yard freestyle. Both times are fourth best in the conference.
