Yohannes Earns First A-10 Volleyball Player of the Week; Fitting, Brus also Garner Accolades

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington graduate student Salem Yohannes its Volleyball Player of the Week. Loyola Chicago freshman Jae Fitting was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. Saint Louis freshman Addy Brus was selected as Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for games played August 30 – Sept. 1, the opening weekend of the season.
 
Yohannes recorded 3.7 kills per set and hit .295 to average 4.5 points per set and lead the Revolutionaries to a 2-1 record on opening weekend. An outside hitter from Woodbridge, Va., Yohannes had 15 kills and 11 digs for a double-double against Howard, hitting .517. She followed that with 14 kills and seven digs in a win over American. She recorded a trio of aces in each of those matches, finishing the week with seven. She also had eight kills and 11 digs versus UC Riverside.
 
Fitting finished the weekend with 51 total digs for an average of 5.10 digs per set that led the Atlantic 10. A libero from Cedarburg, Wis., she posted a perfect reception percentage against Clemson with nine digs. Fitting followed up with a season-high 27 digs at Western Michigan, and added another 25 versus Loyola Marymount.
 
Brus made the All-Tournament team at Arkansas State's A-State Invitational. She totaled a team-high 55 kills, averaging a team-high 4.58 per set, and 27 digs, averaging 2.25 per set, while also averaging a team-high 5.17 points per set. An outside hitter from Cincinnati, her .261 attack percentage also was a team high. Brus turned in match highs of 27 kills versus Southeast Missouri State and 21 kills and four blocks against Arkansas State, and she added 11 digs for a double-double versus SEMO.
