KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island will make its seventh overall appearance at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championship, hosted by Marietta College and the Cincinnati USA Sports Commission, beginning Friday morning at East Fork/Harsha Lake.
This marks the first year that the championship will be held in Ohio. Rhode Island last competed at the NCAA Championship in 2022 when it was held at Nathan Benferson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
Each of Rhode Island's three boats will compete in Heat 4 of the respective flights on Friday. The Varsity 8+ will kick off at 10:24 a.m., followed by the Second Varsity 8+ at 11:12 a.m. and the Varsity 4+ at 12 p.m.
Seeded 21st out of 22 teams, Rhode Island's Varsity 8+ consists of coxswain Lily Stasaitis, stroke Catie Castle, Bethany Nordstrom, Nicole Jones, Samantha Gumprecht, Cait Reardon, Emma Barnhart, Sarah Pecoraro and Bella Bruno. The Rams will race out of Lane 1, joined by Indiana, Tennessee, California, Ohio State and SMU.
In the Second Varsity 8+ flight, the Rams are also seeded 21st. Represented by coxswain Ellie McGee, stroke Jessica Tosi, Olivia Kowalski, Hailey Pardi, Sammie Gorecki, Eryn Wale, Amanda Cubit, Maia Hembruff and Emma Larsh, URI is situated in Lane 1. Indiana, Brown, Yale, Ohio State and SMU are also in that heat.
Rhode Island's Varsity 4+ of coxswain Evelyn Tabor, stroke Emily Olin, Irma Accius, Abby Galayda and Emma Brookins is seeded 22nd. SMU, Virginia, Yale, Brown and Rutgers take up Lanes 1-5, with URI assigned Lane 6.
The national championship consists of three days of racing. The top three boats from each of Friday's heats will secure spots in the A/B Semifinals on Saturday, June 1 while the rest of the teams move on to the C/D Semifinals.
Finals for each flight will be held on Sunday, June 2. Each boat class has four sets of finals - D Final (places 19-22), C Final (places 13-18), Petite Final (places 7-12) and Grand Final (places 1-6).
