Hack, Xie, Rossini, Nunez Garner Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Honors

WASHINGTON – Massachusetts senior Danielle Hack was selected as the Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Most Outstanding Performer while her coach, Juancarlos Nunez was voted A-10 Coaches of the Year. Fordham freshman Anlin Xie and VCU freshman Tiziana Rossini shared Co-Rookie of the Year honors. The league announced the women’s tennis awards Tuesday.
 
The three superlative awards along with the All-Conference were voted on by the A-10 women’s tennis head coaches while the All-Academic team was selected by the tennis communications directors.
 
Hack, a product of Surrey, England, compiled a 21-7 record for the year, including a 14-6 mark. In the spring, all at flight No. 1 for the Minutewomen. She added a 12-8 mark at No. 1 doubles this spring with partner Thamonpan Jonglertrakul. During the fall season, she advanced to the ITA Super Regionals, reaching the Round of 32 of the Main Draw Singles and also took down No. 62-ranked Marice Aguiar of Boston College at the Dartmouth Invitational. Hacks work helped UMass to a 15-8 mark and its third A-10 Championship title.
 
A native of Markham, Ontario, Xie went 19-7 overall and 11-4 in dual singles matches this year. Playing mostly at No. 3 (6-2) and No. 4 (3-2), she compiled a winning record at each flight. She was 13-11 combined in doubles matches with two different partners.
 
Rossini played mostly at flights four, five and six, establishing a 14-4 record in singles. A product of Buenos Aires, Argentina, she started the year strong, winning seven out of eight matches. A two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, she also was 15-5 in doubles dual matches with two different partners. Rossini had a run of six straight wins in doubles during the spring season.
 
Nunez, in his seventh season helming the Minutewomen, coached UMass to a 15-8 mark overall and the program’s third A-10 title. A native of Valencia, Venezuela, Nunez coached three UMass players to All-Conference honors this season, led the Minutewomen to the NCAA Tournament and a berth in the Fall ITA Super Regionals.
