WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond senior Elizabeth Stockman and junior Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir of VCU as its Women's Track and Field Performers of the Week for the second week in a row. Francois Guilhot of Loyola Chicago and Matt Santy of Rhode Island were selected as the Men's Track and Field Performers of the Weelk. Dayton's Kendall Johnson and George Mason's Joziah Johnson earned this week's Rookie of the Week plaudits. The awards were announced Wednesday and are for meets held March 25-31.
Stockman, now a two-time reigning Atlantic 10 Track Performer of the Week found massive success in the 1500m with the 17th place finish amongst 59 other competitors. Her mark and personal best of 4:19.59 ranks No. 2 all-time for the Spiders behind 2011 All-American Amy Van Alstine's 4:19.36. The Rocky Hill, Conn. native's performance currently ranks No. 1 in the Atlantic 10, No. 5 in the ECAC, No. 14 in the NCAA East Region and No. 15 in the NCAA nationally.
A Hvanneyri, Iceland native, Hallgrimsdottir topped what was a nationally renowned week last week, throwing at a 69.76 mark in the hammer throw at the Bobcat Invitational & Multi, a VCU record, the best in the A-10 this year and the second-best in the NCAA.
In the men's 10,000m, Guilhot chased a program record, ultimately landing second on the program's top-10 times list with a personal record of 28:42.02, finishing fifth at the Stanford Invitational. The Annecy, France native's time stands first in the Atlantic 10, ninth in the midwest region and 44th in the nation.
Santy was sixth in the high jump at the Raleigh Relays, clearing 2.05 meters, the top jump in the A-10 this season, the 47th-best in the east region and the 83rd-best jump in the nation.
A freshman from Tulsa, Okla., Johnson won the long jump at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati and shattered the outdoor long jump record at Dayton with a mark of 6.32m. The best jump in the Atlantic 10 this season, Johnson now holds the 17th longest jump in the country and fourth best mark this year by a freshman. The victory marks her third win of the year and her first during the outdoor season. In addition to a personal best jump, Johnson was also able to PR in the 200m (24.82).
A Lake Hiawatha, NJ native, Johnson competed at the Raleigh Relays this past weekend and finished in 23rd place in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.76, which turned out to be his new personal best. The 53.76 time is the second-best in the Atlantic 10 this season and the 71st-ranked mark in the east region.
