WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Rhode Island graduate student Joe DosReis as its Men’s Track Performer of the Week and his senior teammate Matt Santy as its Men’s Field Performer of the Week. Fordham freshman Njam Abdul-Latif earned Men’s Rookie of the Week. Loyola Chicago senior Grace Kuhn and Richmond junior Molly Wise earned Women’s Track Performer of the Week and Field Performer of the Week, respectively. Duquesne freshman Rose Kuchera earned Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday and are the first of the season, are for meets held Dec. 4 – 9.
DosReis set a Rhode Island school record in the opening weekend of competition at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener. DosReis broke URI’s record in the mile after he crossed the finish line at 4:00.28. He finished in 12
th during his first meet as a Ram. DosReis, a Smithfield, R.I. native, holds the eighth best time in Division I so far this year.
Santy won the URI Heptathlon to begin the season. He collected 4,900 points and set the program record in the long jump after leaping 24' 5.75". Santy’s mark broke the URI record he set last season, which was 24' 3.50". The Enfield, Conn. native’s heptathlon score is 24
th in the nation.
Abdul-Latif placed second in the 60-meters event at the Youree-Spence Garcia Invitational. Abdul-Latif finished with a time of 6.92 seconds, which is tied for second in the A-10 so far this season. A Bronx, NY native, Abdul-Latif also grabbed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.91. His 200-meter dash time leads the conference.
Kuhn clocked a Loyola Chicago program record time in the 3,000m Saturday at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener. Her personal-best time of 9:20.91 in the 3K shaved approximately five seconds off the previous record, set in 2019 by LUC’s Lindsey Brewis. She finished 46th overall in the event. Kuhn, a Wyomissing, Penn. native, is 37
th in Division I in the 3,000m.
Wise collected a victory in the long jump at the Liberty Kickoff. Wise, a Harrodsburg, Ky. native, recorded a height of 6.12m (20’ 0.75’), which is her personal-best. She ranks first in the A-10 and fourth in Division I in the long jump.
Kuchera collected three top three finishes at the Akron Haynes Lancaster Open. Kuchera, a Canonsburg, Penn. native, placed second in the triple jump (11.64m / 38' 2.25") and third in both the 60m hurdles (8.93) and long jump (5.55m / 18' 2.5"). Her triple jump and 60m hurdles are third best in the A-10 while her long jump is fourth best in the conference.
