RICHMOND, Va. – Massachusetts captured the Atlantic 10 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, scoring 123.5 points en route to the Minutewomen’s first A-10 title since 2001 Sunday at Sports Backers Stadium.
The Minutewomen won the 400 hurdles and picked up additional medals in the 100 hurdles, 10,000 meters, 4x400m Relay, shot put, hammer, javelin and the high jump. They also received silver and bronze medals in the heptathlon.
VCU slotted in at second with a 120 points followed by Dayton with 96.5, Richmond at 94 and George Mason at 79 points. Rhode Island was sixth with 67.5 points while Davidson secured seventh with 63 points. Fordham (45 points), Duquesne (42.5) and George Washington (42) placed eighth through 10th.
Dayton’s Chante Clinkskale was named Most Outstanding Track Performer following a stellar performance in the 200 meters with a time of 23.95. VCU’s Mackayla McGowan secured the Most Outstanding Field Performer, earning silver in the shotput with a throw of 14.41 meters and gold in the discus with a toss of 49.46 meters.
Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir of VCU received Most Outstanding Rookie, winning the hammer a throw of 59.55 meters. Massachusetts coaches Christine Engel and David Jackson received the A-10 Coaches of the Year honor.
