NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis junior Danny Hopkins and Richmond junior Kayla O’Connell have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, while Saint Louis junior Diego Collado and Dayton senior Taylor Flight earned Men’s and Women’s Field Performers of the Week honors. Saint Louis freshman Jayden Kouadio and Richmond’s freshman Elizabeth Stockman earned Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for events held Feb.13-20.
Hopkins, a native of Fenton, Mo., won the 400 meters at the EIU Friday Night Special with a time of 49.69. He also ran a leg on the Billikens' winning 4x400-meter relay team that posted a time of 3:29.58 at EIU.
O’Connell, a native of Marshfield, Mass., competed in the opening 1,200 leg of the Richmond DMR that set a school record of 11:21.53 with a 3:29.66 split. At the time, the squad's DMR performance ranked seventeenth nationally and is nearly one minute faster than the nearest A-10 performance.
Collado, a native of Wilmette, Ill., won the weight throw at the EIU Friday Night Special with a mark of 57-3.75. He also placed fifth in the shot with a distance of 50-0.
Flight, placed third in the shot put, with her final mark of 13.55m. A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Flight was also the highlight of the women's weight throw event for the Flyers, placing third overall with a mark of 18.68m.
Kouadio, who hails from O'Fallon, Mo., won the triple jump at the EIU Friday Night Special with a leap of 45’7” (13.89m). He also placed third in the high jump with a leap of 6’0.75” (1.85m) and fourth in the long jump with a final mark of 20’9” (6.32m).
Stockman, a native of Rocky Hill, Conn., competed in the JDL DMR Invitational, where she ran the anchor leg of Richmond’s record-setting DMR with a 1,600 split of 4:49.43.
