CHICAGO, Ill. – Fourth-seeded Loyola Chicago (8-2-6) utilized a shutdown defensive effort combined with a lone 28th-minute score to oust No. 5 overall George Washington (8-8-2) in the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer quarterfinals, stifling the Colonials to just four total shots – with one coming on goal – en route to a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park.

With the field re-seeded following the Quarterfinal Round, Loyola awaits both its semifinals opponent and location with still one quarterfinal match left to conclude – No. 2 Duquesne vs. No. 7 La Salle; should the Dukes win, the Ramblers will travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Nov. 9 while, should the Explorers come out on top, LUC will host a semis clash against sixth-seeded Dayton.

A tempestuous afternoon in the Windy City impacted the course of match throughout, as high gusts cut through the stadium on a consistent basis. Even with the environmental interference, however, the Loyola Chicago offense found ways to threaten in both the first and second halves. At the 28th minute, one such attack resulted in a corner kick for the Ramblers; the cross attempt overshot the goal by a wide margin, but a one-touch boot by John Gates managed to lift the ball back into the box, allowing Andrew Schweinert an initial opportunity before Oscar Dueso cleaned up the ricochet on a virtually empty net.

While Loyola orchestrated a number of additional chances for an insurance goal, only two of the team's 13 shots required GW keeper Justin Grady to react. Meanwhile, the Colonials struggled offensively throughout the match, leaning on Tom Cooklin – two shots, one on goal – for a majority of their production.
