FAIRFAX, Va. – VCU captured the Atlantic 10 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, scoring 149 points en route to the Rams' third A-10 title Sunday at George Mason Stadium.
The Rams won the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the discus, the shot put and the heptathlon, and picked up additional medals in the high jump, the triple jump, the discus, the shot put.
George Mason was second with a 123, followed by Rhode Island with 119.33, Richmond at 110 and Massachusetts at 97.5 points. Davidson was sixth with 65 points and Dayton was seventh with 53.5 points. Duquesne (49.33 points), La Salle (43) and George Washington (24) places eighth through 10
th.
Rhody's Kristina MacLure broke the A-10 400 meter hurdles record Sunday with a time of 58.41, edging the previous mark of 58.62. Richmond's Brooke Fazio had the other record-breaking performance Sunday with a 2:03.09 time in the 800 meters, besting the previous record of 2:04.69.
URI Teammates MacLure and Lotte Black (whose 800 meter record Fazio broke) were named Co-Most Outstanding Track Athletes. Black won the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters. VCU's Makayla McGowan won the shot put and finished second in the discus to earn the Most Outstanding Field Performer. VCU's Lauryn Taylor was named the Rookie of the Year after winning both the 100 and 200 meter finals. VCU coach Jon Riley earned the A-10 Coach of the Year honor.
