FAIRFAX, Va. – Rhode Island won its 13
th Atlantic 10 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship Sunday, scoring 184 points and winning three events at George Mason Stadium.
The Rams won the 400 meters, the javelin and the decathlon and medaled in the 200 meters, the 4x100 meters, the 4x400 meters, the 4x800 meters the high jump, the pole vault, the long jump, the javelin and the decathlon.
George Mason finished second with 157 points, followed by VCU with 114, Duquesne with 93 and Davidson 64. UMass placed sixth with 62 points and Saint Louis was seventh with 59. La Salle, Saint Joseph's and George Washington rounded out the field with 57, 49 and 10 points respectively.
La Salle's Dennis Manyeah broke the A-10 record in the high jump with a 2.15 meter leap, topping the previous mark of 2.14 meters. Bryce Anthony of Davidson set the record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.13, besting the previous record of 51.47.
Duquesne's Issac Elliott, who won the 100 meters with a time of 10.29 and the 200 meters at 20.84 was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer. Mason's Jaylen Simmons was the Most Outstanding Field Performer after capturing the shot put with a 18.09 meter throw, while medaling in the discus and hammer as well His teammate Micah Harris was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer after anchoring a gold-medal-winning 4X800 team, and finishing second in the 800 meters . John Copeland of Rhode Island was named 2021 Coach of the Year.
