Q&A WITH EMILY

What would you consider the top moment of your college career?
I have had many special moments throughout my career, but I would say the top moment would be qualifying for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase. 11683Upon crossing the finish line and knowing I had qualified for the Championship meet, teammates, coaches, and family instantly surrounded me. It was a surreal feeling and I knew I could not have done it without them.

Who or what has been your biggest inspiration or motivation?
There have been a lot of people that have motivated me throughout my college career. Having teammates and coaches who inspire and encourage one another on a daily basis inspired me to work even harder to reach high levels of success. In addition, coming from a small town with a big fan base and support network motivated me to want to successfully represent where I come from and make them proud.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received? The worst?
I would say the best advice I received during my college career is learning to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Knowing that the difficult times will lead to even greater results.

The worst advice I have received as a runner is “run faster!”

What was your favorite class/professor and why?
My favorite class was Health Campaigns at the graduate level. This was because throughout the semester, we gathered data regarding different health issues and analyzed the impact these issues have on today’s society and how they impact every individual differently.

What is something you wish more people knew about you?
I am a firm believer that ice cream is the key to success (in moderation, of course).

If someone wrote a biography about you, what would the title be?
‘Small Town Girl’
