RICHMOND, Va. – The top-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks won their third consecutive Atlantic 10 Field Hockey championship with a 1-0 win over the third-seeded Richmond Spiders. With the win, the Hawks secure the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament starting next week.

After a scoreless first quarter, Saint Joseph’s junior Jordan Olenginski broke through the Spiders’ defense and scored the lone goal of the game in the first minute of the second quarter.

The Spiders’ defense kept the Hawks under wraps throughout the second half, holding Saint Joseph’s without a shot. On the offensive side of the field, Richmond was able to create several opportunities but nothing came of their trips inside the circle.

Richmond registered nine shots on the game, while Saint Joseph’s finished with seven. Saint Joseph’s goalkeeper, Victoria Kammerinke, tallied four saves, while Richmond’s Frankie-Lynne Conklin had one save.

Immediately following the game, the league announced the 11-member All-Championship Team voted on by tournament staff. The team consisted of Lock Haven’s Kayla Brathwaite, Massachusetts’ Jess Beech, Richmond’s Elise Zwicklbauer, Tess Keppel, Stephie Bongers, and Amanda DaSilva, Saint Joseph’s Victoria Kammerinke, Olenginski, Pepa Serrano, Carolina Boxer, and Kathrin Bentz.

Bentz was also named Most Outstanding Player of the championship. In the two game span, she assisted both of Saint Joseph’s goals in their 2-1 win against Lock Haven on Friday and led the way for the Hawks defensively in their shutout against Richmond.
