KINGSTON, R.I. -- The fifth-seeded La Salle Explorers swept No. 4 George Washington in three sets in match one of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Quarterfinals at Keaney Gym in Kingston, R.I., on Friday.
The Explorers took the lead early in the first set, with the first three points in a row, and held off George Washington 25-19 to take the game. They won the second set in a similar fashion, outscoring the Colonials 25-14.
George Washington took its first lead in the third set, pulling ahead by four points, but the Explorers rallied to tie the score at 21 and eventually win the final match point.
Setter of the Year, La Salle's Kathryn Wood, contributed 43 assists to the win, while Elizabeth Osborne and Devin Corah added 10 and 14 kills, respectively. Osborne, Rachel Hess, and Samantha Graver put up 23 digs between them.
Skylar Iott led the Colonials in kills with 12, while setter Jaimeson Lee added 21 assists, and eight digs.
With the win, La Salle advances to play No. 1 VCU in the championship semifinals Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4:30 pm.
