Twelve A-10 Standouts Taken on Final Day of 2015 MLB Draft

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Twelve Atlantic 10 Conference standouts were taken in the final day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. A total of 13 student-athletes were selected over the three-day event.

Seven different schools saw at least one player drafted with five progarms having a pair of student-athletes taken. 

The defending American League Champion Kansas City Royals drafted five A-10 players while the San Diego Padres took two.

Below is a list of the players taken on Wednesday.
 
Brett Kennedy | Fordham | RHP | 11th Round by the San Diego Padres

Kennedy just completed his junior season, helping Fordham to their second straight appearance at the Atlantic 10 Championship.  He finished the year as the Rams' top arm, leading the team in starts (15), wins (6), innings pitched (87.0), and strikeouts (97), while finishing with a 4.14 ERA and just 20 walks.  He was better in Atlantic 10 play, registering a 5-3 record with a 3.51 ERA in 51.1 innings.  He also finished league action with 55 strikeouts to just eight walks. Charles Galliano | Fordham | C | 40th Round by the Milwaukee Brewers
Galliano hit a career-best .301 with 35 runs scored, nine home runs and 36 RBI. The nine home runs were the most by a Ram since Bobby DiNardo hit 15 in 2009.  He also added seven doubles and a pair of stolen bases, while registering a team-best 19 multi-hit games and a team-high nine multi-RBI games. He excelled in conference play, batting .393 with 17 runs scored, six home runs, and 23 RBI.  From April 26th to May 20th, he posted a career-long 12-game hit streak, which was the longest by a Ram this season. Luke Willis | George Mason | OF | 30th Round by the Kansas City Royals
Willis joined Mason prior to the 2014 season from Coastal Carolina and enjoyed two successful seasons with the Patriots, starting every game while batting .327 with 87 runs scored and 146 total hits, including 27 doubles, five triples and six homeruns to go along with 63 RBI and 43 walks. His 50 stolen bases in two seasons are the fifth most in the program career record book. His 26-game hit streak this season ended one short of tying the longest streak in Mason baseball history. Jake Kalish | George Mason | LHP | 32nd Round by the Kansas City Royals
Kalish also worked his way into the Mason record books after spending five years with the Patriots. He ended his career at Mason with 228 innings pitched and a 3.32 ERA, striking out 197 batters and walking only 57. Working as a starter and in relief, he finished with a 14-12 career record to go along with nine saves, the sixth most as a Patriot. He was a top-10 all-time pitcher at Mason in multiple categories, including appearances, strikeouts, opponent batting average, strikeout-to-walk ratio and ERA. Full Story

Shane Kemp | George Washington | RHP | 26th Round by the Pittsburgh Pirates
Kemp, a 6-3 right-handed pitcher with a mid-90s fastball, appeared in 12 games this season for the Colonials. He started seven games and totaled 32.1 innings, pitching to a 3-2 record with a 4.18 ERA. Kemp is the first player drafted out of George Washington since the Washington Nationals chose Bobby Lucas Jr. in the 27th round in 2011. Full Story

Lou Distasio | Rhode Island | RHP | 32nd Round by the San Diego Padres
Identified as one of the Atlantic 10's top prospects as well as one of the top prospects from New England, Distasio has been a two-year member of Rhode Island's weekend rotation and tied for the team lead with six wins this year. He recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in URI's 6-3 upset over 11th-ranked North Carolina, en route to earning A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors on March 2.

Matt Dacey | Richmond | 3B | 21st Round by the Tama Bay Rays
Dacey earned First-Team All-East Region and First-Team All-Atlantic 10 honors this past season after becoming just the third player ever to lead the A-10 in home runs in consecutive seasons. After hitting 12 homers in 2014, Dacey clubbed 17 this past year, while batting .313 on the season. Dacey also led the A-10 in runs scored (56), while finishing second in total bases (129), fourth in RBI (52), third in walks (35) and second in slugging percentage (.652). Full Story

Tanner Stanley | Richmond | OF | 36th Round by the Kansas City Royals
In three seasons at Richmond, Stanley has started in all but one of the 140 games he’s appeared in for the Spiders. Stanley had a tremendous rookie season for UR, earning Freshman All-American honors from Louisville Slugger, First-Team All-Atlantic 10 accolades and was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year. Steven Klimek | St. Bonaventure | RHP | 33rd Round by the Baltimore Orioles 
A native of Rochester, N.Y., who graduated from Greece Arcadia High School, Klimek has played three seasons with the Bonnies. This season, he went 3-7 with a 7.93 ERA in 12 appearances (nine starts). He missed time in 2014 due to an abdominal strain, but went 1-4 with a 4.17 ERA in nine appearances. The 6-foot-3, 195-lb. Klimek had his best season as a freshman in 2013 when he was 1-4 with a 5.66 ERA and allowed only 40 hits in 49 innings.

Jake Henson | Saint Louis | C | 21st Round by the Los Angeles Dodgers
Henson was drafted by the Dodgers in the 21st round (pick 642). He was SLU's top power hitter in 2015. He hit .327 with a .531 slugging percentage and a .366 on-base percentage. Henson led the team with eight home runs and 46 RBIs. He recorded 20 multi-hit games in 2015. Prior to this season Henson had 13 multi-hit games in two seasons as a Billiken. Full Story

Colton Frabasilio | Saint Louis | C/OF | 23rd Round by the Kansas City Royals
Frabasilio was a threat in the heart of the Billiken lineup, hitting .313 with a .460 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage. He notched four home runs and 35 RBIs. Frabasilio also made a tough transition from catcher to full-time outfielder in 2014, making 31 starts in the outfield as a senior. Full Story

Daniel Concepcion  | VCU | RHP | 12th Round by the Kansas City Royals
Coming to Richmond from Connors State JC in Oklahoma, Concepcion gave the Black and Gold two stellar years on the mound. This year he broke the single-season saves record at VCU with 14 and he was on the mound for the last out of the Atlantic 10 Championship game.  Full Story
