WASHINGTON – Lee Miller’s two run homerun in the eighth inning propelled Davidson over George Washington 2-1 in an elimination game of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship on Friday night.
Davidson advances to Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. game where it will take on Rhode Island. The winner of that game will face VCU at 4:00 p.m. in the championship round. Should URI or Davidson beat VCU, there would be a final game on Sunday to decide the A-10 Champion. GW finishes its season at 32-22.
Down 1-0 in the bottom half of the eighth inning, Ryan Lowe singled off the first base bag to reach base with two outs. Miller followed with a homerun to right field to put Davidson in front 2-1.
After Davidson retired the first two batters of the GW ninth inning, Kevin Mahala and Joey Bartosic recorded back-to-back singles, but Matt Saeta was able to get a strikeout to seal the victory for the ‘Cats.
Saeta got the win after tossing 2.1 innings of relief where he allowed three hits and struck out three in improving to 6-0. Lowe got the start on the mound for Davidson, going 6.2 innings and gave up just one run.
Brady Renner (2-2) was the hard luck loser on the mound for GW. The freshman right-hander went eight innings and struck out 10 Wildcats.
