Newport News, Va. -- Rhode Island freshman Tyler Wilson has been recognized by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as one of eight Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week, following this weekend's outing at Richmond. Wilson also earned his second Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Weekaward after one-hitting the first-place Spiders on Saturday afternoon.
The Palmer, Mass. native needed just 85 pitches to record 27 outs in his sixth consecutive quality start. He struck out three and issued just two walks over nine complete frames.
Wilson lowered his ERA to 0.55 in conference games and 1.14 overall - which ranks sixth nationally and first among all Division I freshmen. The Rhody southpaw also leads the nation in hits allowed per nine innings, with just 3.74, and ranks third in the country with a 0.76 WHIP.
The national award is the first of Wilson's career while the A-10 has twice recognized him as Pitcher of the Week and twice selected him as Rookie of the Week.
