Massachusetts Captures the Men's A-10 Swimming & Diving Championship

BUFFALO, N.Y. - After sitting atop the leader boards since Day One, the University of Massachusetts took home the Men's 2012 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday night at the Flickinger Center.

Massachusetts has now won six consecutive A-10 Conference titles, and 11 of the last 12 overall. The minutemen finished with a total of 693 points.

In the men's 1,650-yd Freestyle, Massachusetts sophomore Chris Inglis finished first overall with a time of 15:43.25. He was followed by Massachusetts senior Joey Sbordon (15:44.35), who finished second, and George Washington sophomore Spencer Neff (15:53.34), who finished third.

The 200-yd Backstroke saw Massachusetts freshman Hao Luong capture the gold with a time of 1:46.81.

In the 100-yd Freestyle, St. Bonaventure sophomore Jimmy Martin narrowly registered the victory with a time of 44.82. Fordham junior Devon Morris (44.89) finished second, while Saint Louis freshman Zack Billingsley (45.24) finished third.

La Salle junior Blase Szyszko set the pace in the 200-yd Breaststroke as he recorded a first-place finish with a time of 2:01.35.

In the men's 200-yd Butterfly, Xavier senior Michael Zennedjian continued his strong championship as he posted a time of 1:48.85 on way to another first-place finish.

In the night's final event, the men's 400-yd Freestyle Relay provided an exciting finish to the championships as the Saint Louis relay team consisting of four freshman, Zack Billingsley, Patrick MacArt, Patrick May and Justin Pasquesi put up a time of 3:00.83 en route to a first-place finish in the event.

Following Massachusetts in the standings was St. Bonaventure with 567 points, Xavier (522), La Salle (417), Fordham (412), George Washington (401) and Saint Louis (342).
