Richmond Captures 17th Overall A-10 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship Title

HAMPTON, Va. -- The University of Richmond Spiders captured the Atlantic 10 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, clinching its 17th title overall and first since 2020-21. The Spiders totaled 600 points in route to their championship victory on Saturday at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.  

George Washington, winner of the last four championships, finished second with 572.5 points. Duquesne earned bronze with 516.5 points. La Salle (477), Fordham (371), St. Bonaventure (358), Rhode Island (234), George Mason (211), Davidson (169) and Saint Louis (142) concluded the standings.  

Richmond collected four gold medals including Saturday’s 400-yard freestyle relay. The Spiders team of Presley Baber, Julia Krichev, Caitlyn Hughes and Lena Amare in 3:19.87. Richmond’s coach Matt Barany received Coach of the Year.  

Gabriella Herbreder of La Salle won the Most Outstanding Performer and GW’s Talya Erdogan won the Most Outstanding Rookie. St. Bonaventure’s Dhavgely Mendoza won the one-meter dive event with a score of 303.10. She collected Most Outstanding Diver honors, and the Bonnies coach Alejandra Fuentes earned Diving Coach of the Year.        

  • Ava Topolewski of GW defended her crown and clinched a spot in the NCAA Championship with her victory in the women’s 1,650-yard freestyle. She won with a time of 16:23.28 followed by her teammate Talya Erdogan in second 16:25.53. Campbell Stever of St. Bonaventure finished third in 16:48.47. 

  • Sierra Snow of Duquesne won the women’s 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.15. St. Bonaventure’s Anna Forjan earned silver in 1:55.67 and Hannah Wieczorek of Richmond collected bronze in 1:57.09.  

  • Presley Baber of Richmond won gold in the women’s 100-yard freestyle in :49.84. La Salle’s Victoria Fenn collected silver in :49.97. Mia Hren of GW finished third in :49.99.  

  • Gabriela Herbreder of La Salle won the women’s 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.91. Gabbi Primiano of Richmond finished second in 2:14.47 and Logan Norrid of Rhode Island placed third in 2:14.55. 

  • Hayley Clark of Fordham won gold in the women’s 200-yard butterfly in 1:58.19. Ashley Freel of Duquesne finished second in 1:59.49. Claudia Rzeznik of Duquesne placed third in 2:00.48.  

  • Mendoza placed first in the women’s one-meter dive and was followed by Tiffany Brawn of La Salle in second (278.75). Olivia Paquette of GW earned bronze with 277.40 points.  

  • The Spiders won gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay followed by GW’s Mia Hren, Coleen MacWilliams, Topolewski and Joselle Mensah who placed second (3:20.17). La Salle finished third in 3:20.69 behind Herbreder, Rosalia Marin Martinez and Beren Celik and Victoria Fenn.    

The NCAA Division I Championship is set for March 18-21, 2026 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Student-athletes who won their event and finished with an automatic qualifying time earn a spot in the NCAA Championship.
