***SCHEDULE CHANGES***
Due to the inclement weather in the Charlottesville, Va. , area the schedule for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship has been altered and three match times will be affected on Saturday, April 9.
Third-seeded Saint Louis and No. 6 Duquesne, originally scheduled to meet on Friday, April 8, will now go head-to-head in the quarterfinals on Saturday, April 9 at 10:30AM. Top-seeded Richmond and No. 4 George Washington will also meet in the quarterfinals at 1:00PM on Saturday, and Match 15, featuring No. 2 Temple and the winner of the Saint Louis/Duquesne contest will square-off at 3:30PM.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Eighth-seeded Charlotte outlasted No. 9 Dayton, 4-3, in the opening round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championships, Friday morning at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. The 49ers will now face top-seeded Richmond this afternoon at approximately 5:30PM, while Dayton will face No. 10 Fordham, Saturday at 1:00PM to determine ninth place in the Championship.
The Flyers opened the match with a 1-0 advantage after securing the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 victories at the number one and two tandem positions. Charlotte, however, would retaliate in the singles competition and rattle off four victories to out muscle Dayton and continue on in the Championship bracket.

#7 MASSACHUSETTS 4, #10 FORDHAM 1
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seventh-seeded Massachusetts defeated No. 10 Fordham, 4-1, during the opening round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, Friday morning at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
With the win, the Minutewomen advance in the Championship bracket and will face second-seeded Temple, who received a first-round, at approximately 7:30PM this evening, while Fordham will face No. 9 Dayton, Saturday at 1:00PM to determine ninth place in the Championship.

#3 SAINT LOUIS 4, #14 LA SALLE 0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Third-seeded Saint Louis cruised to a 4-0 victory over #14 La Salle during the opening round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship, Friday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
With the win, Saint Louis advances in the Championship bracket and will face No. 6 Duquesne later this evening, while La Salle will take on No. 11 Saint Joseph’s to determine the tie for 11th-place in the Championship – the winner will tie with the winner of the Rhode Island/ St. Bonaventure match.
The Billikens easily claimed the doubles point, earning a pair of 8-0 victories at the number one and three tandem spots. SLU extended its advantage, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 on the number one and two courts, before clinching the deciding fourth point at number four singles, as Stephanie Hollis defeated La Salle’s Allison Amrein, 6-0, 6-1.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Fourth-seeded George Washington captured a convincing, 4-0, opening round victory over No. 13 Rhode Island during the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
With the win, the Colonials advance in the Championship and will battle fifth-seeded Xavier in the quarterfinals later this evening, while the Rams go head-to-head with No. 12 St. Bonaventure on Saturday morning at 8:00AM.

#5 XAVIER 4, #12 ST. BONAVENTURE 0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Fifth-seeded Xavier rolled to a 4-0 triumph over No. 12 St. Bonaventure, during the opening round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship, Friday afternoon at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
With the win, the Musketeers advance to the quarterfinals of the Championship and will face No. 4 George Washington later this evening, while the Bonnies take on #13 Rhode Island to determine who will finish in a tie for 11th-place.
The Musketeers jumped out to the early 1-0 advantage, winning at number one and three doubles. XU then shutout the Bonnies 6-0, 6-0 on the number six and two singles courts, respectively, before clinching the decisive fourth point at number five singles, courtesy of Allyson Westling’s 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Andrea Pavlovic.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sixth-seeded Duquesne registered a 4-0 victory over No. 11 Saint Joseph’s during the opening round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, Friday afternoon at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
With the win, Duquesne advances to the quarterfinals and will face third-seeded Saint Louis, while the Hawks will close out competition in the consolation bracket against #14 La Salle on Saturday afternoon.
Duquesne took the early 1-0 advantage in the match with victories on the number one and three doubles courts, before cruising to three-straight wins in singles and claiming the 4-0 triumph. The Dukes used a trio of straight-set wins at numbers six, four and five singles to defeat the Hawks.

#1 RICHMOND 4, #8 CHARLOTTE 0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Top-seeded Richmond picked up an impressive 4-0 victory over No. 8 Charlotte during the quarterfinals of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, Saturday night at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
Richmond, who earned a first-round bye, advances the semifinals of the event and will go head-to-head with the winner of the #4 George Washington/#5 Xavier match, while the 49ers fall to the consolation bracket and will take on the loser of the Colonials/Musketeers contest on Saturday morning.
The defending champion Spiders clinched the coveted doubles point with victories at the number one and three tandem positions. With the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition, UR got wins from Sydney Grant, Kelly Tidwell and Elizabeth Sims – all in straight sets – to advance in the event.

#2 TEMPLE 4, #7 MASSACHUSETTS 0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The second-seeded Temple women’s tennis team moved on in the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-0 quarterfinal win over Massachusetts on Friday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. With all of the seeds holding, the Owls go up against #3 Saint Louis or #6 Duquesne at 3:30PM on Saturday.
In singles action, Pazderova added to the TU lead with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Chantal Swiszcz at number five. Freshman Jordan Batey increased it to a 3-0 Temple advantage with her 6-1, 6-3 win at number six over Kaitlyn Carpenter. Steiner closed out the match with a challenging 7-5, 6-2 defeat of Julia Comas at number two, giving Temple the 4-0 win.

#4 GEORGE WASHINGTON 4, #5 XAVIER 1
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Fourth-seeded George Washington out-muscled fifth-seeded Xavier, 4-1, during the quarterfinals of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship, Friday evening at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. With the victory, GW advances to the semifinals where it will face No. 1 Richmond at 1:00PM, while XU will battle No. 8 Charlotte at 10:30AM -- both matches are on Saturday, April 9.
The Colonials captured the coveted doubles point, as Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn teamed up for an 8-2 victory over XU's Kally Alkire and Kelsey Kinnard at the number one doubles position and Jacqui Cordba and Jennifer Hirsh claimed an 8-4 victory on the number-three court.
GW carried the 1-0 advantage heading into singles and rattled off two consecutive wins at number three and four singles to extend its lead to 3-0. Xavier battled back in the top singles spot and registered its lone point of the match as Katie Pleiman defeated Corba in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
Hirsh clinched the match for the Colonials, winning in three hard-fought sets at number-five singles (7-5, 3-6, 6-2).
