Schrom, Brenning, Searles Earn Under Armour #A10VB Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in volleyball. The awards are for games played from August 31-September 6.
 
Player of the Week: Emersen Schrom (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.), Duquesne
Defensive Player of the Week: Jetta Brenning (So., Powell, Ohio), Saint Louis
Rookie of the Week: Simone Searles (Fr., Marietta, Ga.), Duquesne
 
Emersen Schrom helped Duquesne post a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team after averaging 5.33 points, 4.22 kills and 2.67 digs per set while hitting .413 for the weekend. The junior opened the tournament with her second double-double of the season, recording 11 kills and 10 digs while adding three service aces and hitting .364 in a sweep of Eastern Michigan. Schrom followed that with 15 kills, six digs and five aces while hitting an impressive .481 in a sweep of Elon. She capped the weekend with 12 kills and eight digs while posting a .385 hitting percentage in a 3-0 victory over Robert Morris. Duquesne is the only remaining unbeaten team in the Atlantic 10, at 6-0 overall.
 
Jetta Brenning totaled 33 digs over the weekend, averaging 4.23 per set, and added three block assists (0.38 per set). In SLU’s sweep over Merrimack, Jetta recorded 17 digs in three sets. The sophomore setter also added 8.13 assists per set, seven total kills and three aces. She has had a double-double in every game so far this season. As a team, the Billikens went 2-0 over the weekend with the sweep of Merrimack and a 3-2 comeback win over Southern Illinois, handing the Salukis their first loss of the season.
 
Simone Searles was named Tournament MVP at the Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic over the weekend, as Duquesne extended its season-opening win streak to six straight with a trio of sweeps. The freshman averaged 5.22 points and 4.44 kills per set while hitting an incredible .493. Searles totaled 40 kills, 16 digs, seven blocks (1s/6a), and three aces across three matches. She opened the tournament with 15 kills, three digs, two aces and a .379 hitting percentage in a victory over Eastern Michigan before closing out the day with eight kills, seven digs, four blocks and an impressive .533 hitting percentage in a sweep of Elon. The freshman saved her best for last, recording a season-high 17 kills while hitting a blistering .586 with no errors in a sweep of Robert Morris. She also added six digs and two blocks in the victory.
