WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in volleyball. The awards are for games played from September 14-20.
 
Player of the Week: Elena Garcia-Guerrios (Sr., Manati, Puerto Rico), Davidson
Defensive Player of the Week: Brooke Briscoe (Jr., Versailles, Ohio), Davidson
Rookie of the Week: Simone Searles (Fr., Marietta, Ga.), Duquesne
 
Elena Garcia-Guerrios was named MVP of the Clash For The Crown as Davidson defeated Charlotte and Queens in a round-robin event in the Queen City. The senior recorded 43 kills across the Wildcats’ two matches, tying a career high with 26 kills while hitting .367 in their match at Queens. Garcia-Guerrios also averaged 2.44 digs/set in the two matches over the weekend.
 
Brooke Briscoe earned the A10’s Defensive honor for the second straight week as the junior libero recorded 44 digs across two matches and only had 2 reception errors on 31 passes. Briscoe added 13 assists over the weekend after totaling just ten in the Wildcats’ prior nine matches this season.
 
Simone Searles earned her second Rookie honor in three weeks as she helped Duquesne sweep UMES and Siena at the Dukes’ Natale Sporting Goods Invitational. The freshman earned all-tournament honors as she averaged 5.58 points, 5.00 kills and 3.17 digs per set while hitting an impressive .491 over the weekend. Searles totaled 30 kills, 19 digs, four blocks and one ace across the two matches. She opened the tournament with her second double-double of the season, recording 16 kills and 10 digs while hitting .640 in the sweep of UMES, and followed with 14 kills and nine digs while hitting .357 in the straight-set victory over the Saints.
