TYSONS, Va. – Rhode Island had 20 hits and scattered 17 runs across five innings and turned back a late rally to upset top-seeded Saint Joseph’s and reach the semifinals at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship Thursday at Capital One Park.
Rhode Island will face the winner of No. 2 Richmond and No. 3 VCU in the semifinals Friday. Saint Joseph’s falls into the consolation bracket and will play an elimination game Friday.
Every URI player had at least one hit, and Reece Moroney, Ryan King and Danny Leikus led the Rams with three hits each. King, who had two home runs, had a team-high three RBI. Starter Jake Cullen (3-4) earned the win, throwing 6.1 innings with four hits, five runs and six strikeouts. Tomy Turner collected his second save of the season for 2.1 innings of closing work, with three hits, two runs and five strikeouts.
A close game early, Rhody broke a one-all tie with two runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. But Saint Joseph’s scored six runs in the seventh inning, closing the gap to just three runs. The Rams answered in the top of the ninth, exploding for seven runs to more than double the margin and leave little doubt.
Four Hawks had two-hit outings – Joey Gale, Joey Pagano, Jason Janesko and Tim Dickinson. Dickinson, Pagano and Alex Kelsey each had two RBI. Starter Duke McCarron (4-3) took the loss, towing five innings with 10 hits and six runs allowed.
