RICHMOND, Va. – Ben Dutton tied the Betterment Atlantic 10 Men’s Lacrosse Championship record for goals in a game and No. 3 Saint Joseph’s held off a furious late rally to beat second-seeded High Point 11-9 in the A-10 semifinals at Robins Stadium Thursday.

The Hawks (7-5) advance to their second Atlantic 10 title game Saturday to face top-seeded Richmond. Saint Joseph’s win the league crown over Richmond in 2024.

Dutton scored four of Saint Joseph’s first five goals, including three straight for a first-quarter hat trick. He added three more in the second half, including the final SJU goal, an insurance marker that gave the Hawks a buffer from High Point’s rally.

Down by as much as four, the Panthers (6-8) scored four straight goals in the fourth quarter, including two from Nicholas Steele. Luke Fenderson tied the game at nine with his second goal of the game.

Griffin Mallory was the tiebreaking hero, scoring with 3:50 left in regulation to give Saint Joseph’s the lead. Dutton’s final goal all but gave the Hawks the win, despite a late flurry from the Panthers.

No player other than Dutton had more than two goals. A very even game statistically, both goalkeepers made nine saves, both teams had eight caused turnovers and SJU held a slight 28-25 edge in ground balls. High point won the faceoff battle 14-9.
