Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team reached new heights in 2026 thanks to the continued support of Spider fans. Backed by one of the best home atmospheres in college lacrosse, the Spiders climbed as high as No. 1 in the national polls while playing in front of a record cumulative attendance of 28,740 fans at Robins Stadium.

Richmond posted a 10-1 record at home in 2026 and averaged 2,613 fans per game throughout the season. The Spiders' cumulative attendance total ranked second nationally, trailing only Syracuse, and was the highest among programs that play in a traditional outdoor stadium setting.

The season reached another milestone during Richmond's NCAA First Round matchup against Duke, when 6,805 fans packed Robins Stadium to set a new program attendance record. The crowd also marked the highest-attended NCAA First Round game in history.

"Seeing 6,800 people in the stands was special," said head coach Dan Chemotti. "I give credit to the guys, I give credit to our fans, and I give credit to the department for making this an awesome place to play lacrosse."

"We've been lucky enough to bring some notable teams to Robins Stadium, and the fans, the attendance, the experience — everybody does an incredible job," Chemotti added. "They've made this one of the best lacrosse venues in the country, without question."

In 2026 alone, Richmond hosted three eventual NCAA Tournament teams and conference champions at Robins Stadium in Robert Morris (NEC), Virginia (ACC), and Georgetown (Big East). Richmond's scheduled home opener, which was ultimately canceled due to weather, was also slated to feature defending national runner-up and preseason No. 1 Maryland.

The 2023 season marked the first year Richmond began selling tickets to men's lacrosse games. Since then, the program has consistently ranked among the nation's leaders in both average and cumulative attendance, averaging more than 2,550 fans per game over the last four seasons. Since 2023, 62,632 fans have entered the gates at Robins Stadium to support the Spiders.

As the program's success has continued to grow, so has the support behind it. Richmond's cumulative attendance rose from 5,871 fans in 2023 — ranked 28th nationally — to 28,740 in 2026, the second-highest total in the country.

"The way it's transformed over the years is definitely unbelievable," said rising senior Gavin Creo. "The continued and growing support I've seen since being a freshman has been incredible."
