WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Richmond senior Joe Sheridan as its Under Armour Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week. Massachusetts sophomore Owen Salanger was named Defensive Player of the Week and his freshman teammate Colin Coyle earned Rookie of the Week. The league announced the awards on Monday for games played Feb. 22 to March 1.
Sheridan led Richmond with four points, recording two goals, two assists, and a ground ball in the Spiders 8–7 win over defending national champion Cornell. Facing a two-goal deficit, Sheridan played a role in each of Richmond’s final three goals to secure the comeback win. The West Chester, PA native, scored the game-tying goal and provided the assist on the game winner.
Salanger, a goalkeeper, led UMass to wins over RV Brown and No. 20 UAlbany, posting a .702 save percentage with 40 saves across two games and an 8.5 goals-against average. He grabbed five ground balls and had a caused turnover. Against Brown, the Liverpool, NY native made a career high 23 saves and posted a .742 save percentage. Salanger followed with a 17 save effort with three ground balls and a caused turnover in a convincing 15-9 win over UAlbany.
Coyle scored four goals and tallied three assists for seven points across wins over RV Brown and No. 20 UAlbany. Coyle, a Westfield, NJ native, had a goal, an assist and two ground balls in the 11-8 win over the Bears. He proceeded to tally five points, Followed up with five points (3g, 2a) on four shots for a .750 shooting percentage in the 15-9 win over UAlbany.
