VCU, Saint Louis Dancing; Open NCAA Tournament Play Thursday

The Atlantic 10 is a multi-bid league for 18th times in the last 20 years. Both A-10 Champion VCU and Regular Season Champion Saint Louis earned bids in the NCAA Tournament.

VCU, an 11 seed, will face sixth-seeded. North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 19 in Greenville, S.C. Saint Louis claimed a No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Georgia on Thursday at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Game time and TV information will be announced shortly.
 
The Rams (27-7), hot off their second straight Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Championship and Tarheels (24-8) will meet for the first time in program history. 
 
VCU will be making the 21st NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, and its 15th since 2004. The Black and Gold have reached “The Big Dance” three of the past four seasons via the A-10’s automatic bid. 
 
The Rams, led by first-year Head Coach Phil Martelli Jr., have won 16 of their past 17 games.

The Billikens (28-5) are making their 11th overall NCAA Tournament appearance and the first since 2019.

The winner of Thursday’s game will face the winner of No. 1 Michigan vs. No. 16 UMBC/Howard on Saturday, March 21. The winner of that game advances to the Midwest Regional in Chicago, March 27 and 29. The Final Four is scheduled for April 4 and 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

Saint Louis enters NCAA Tournament play with a school-record-tying 28 wins. The Billikens captured a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season title with a 15-3 league mark.
