WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Davidson senior Charlise Dunn as the Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. George Mason freshman Mary Amoateng was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Feb. 2 - Feb. 8.
Dunn earned the first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week accolade of the season, posting monstrous numbers for the Wildcats. The guard from Victoria, Australia averaged 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals across two games last week, shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line. Dunn produced an 18-point, 10-rebound double double in Wednesday’s road loss to St. Bonaventure, adding two steals and a block. She captained a strong bounce-back effort on Saturday against George Washington, leading the Wildcats to a 68-58 win with 31 points, six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal while knocking down 7-of-8 free attempts at the free throw line.
Amoateng picked up the first A-10 accolades of her young career, stepping up against one of George Mason’s toughest opponents in conference play. The point guard from Baltimore scored a season-best 17 points in a road loss to Richmond, making 7-of-12 shot attempts in 26 minutes of action. Amoateng tallied five assists, two rebounds, and two steals as well.
