GW Men's, Richmond Women's Lead Through Third Day of A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships

WASHINGTON -- After the third day of the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, the George Washington men’s and Richmond women’s maintained their lead in first place at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex in Hampton, Va. on Friday.  

The Richmond Spiders are in first with 399 points. George Washington (376.5) and Duquesne (355.5) follow behind in second and third, respectively. La Salle (324), St. Bonaventure (237), Fordham (229), Rhode Island (163), George Mason (148), Davidson (130) and Saint Louis (91) round out the women’s standings.   

George Washington leads in first with 535.33 points and George Mason sits in second with 410.16 points. St. Bonaventure follows in third (351.5) with La Salle (317), Davidson (274), Fordham (239) and Saint Louis (229) conclude the standings.                        

Three A-10 men’s swimmers clinched an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship. Felix Jedbratt of La Salle, Dylan Felt of Davidson and Holden Thomas of George Washington earned a spot with their respective gold medal victories.  

  • Duquesne’s Ashley Freel captured the women’s 100-yard butterfly in :53.38. Cecilie Frost of La Salle placed second in :53.57 and Claudia Rzeznik of Duquesne collected bronze in :54.11. 

  • Jedbratt clinched his second NCAA Championship time and another gold medal in the men’s 100-yard butterfly in :45.02. Aoun Al-Hirari earned silver in :45.57 and GW’s Daniel Nagy finished third in :46.42.  

  • Gabriela Herbreder of LAS captured gold in the women’s 400-yard individual medley in 4:15.21. Fordham’s Karina Kanary earned second in 4:16.66 and Ashley Freel of Duquesne placed third in 4:18.09.  

  • GW’s Andres Brooks collected gold in the men’s 400-yard IM in 3:47.60, while his teammate Heitor Napolitano Fonseca Reis placed second in 3:50.63. St. Bonaventure’s Kevyn Collazo Torres finished third in 3:53.27. 

  • Anna Forjan of SBU earned gold in the women’s 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.75. Molly Beckwith of Rhode Island collected silver in the 1:49.17 and Richmond’s Caitlyn Hughes captured bronze in 1:49.30. 

  • Felt clinched an automatic qualifier in the NCAA Championship for his gold medal in the men’s 200-yard freestyle. He won the event in 1:33.46 with George Mason’s Tate Anderson placing second in 1:34.12. The Expolorers’ Carter Perkins finished third in the 1:34.55. 

  • Natalie Sens of GW clinched first in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.29. Richmond’s Presley Baber placed second in 1:02.06 and the Explorers’ Carlota Ungo finished third in 1:02.48.  

  • GW’s Alessandro Borsato earned first in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke in :53.08. Brae Sanchez of SLU collected second in :53.81 and Preston Lin of GW placed third in :53.88. 

  • Forjan captured her second gold medal in the women’s 100-yard backstroke, winning in a time of :53.92. Sierra Snow of Duquesne earned silver in :54.08 and Sophie Baker placed third in :54.09.  

  • Holden Thomas of GW secured an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Championships in the men’s 100-yard backstroke. He won gold in :46.24 with GM’s Ian Rodgers placed second in :46.68. Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan of GW collected bronze in :47.19.  

  • David Garcia Vargas earned his second gold medal in the men’s three-meter diving with a score of 354.15. Calvin LeBlanc of LA Salle collected silver with 347.85 points and Michael Wood of GW placed third with 333.05 points.  

  • La Salle’s women’s 400-yard medley relay team earned gold by Rosalia Marin Martinez, Carlota Quero Ungo, Frost and Victoria Fenn in 3:40.26. Richmond’s squad of Hannah Wieczorek, Baber, Lena Amare and Hughes received silver in 3:40.93. Duquesne’s team of Snow, Sydney Severini, Freel and Lucy Backus collected bronze in 3:41.47.  

  • GM’s team earned gold in the men’s 400-yard medley relay by Rodgers, Jack Chapman, Al-Hiari and Anderson in 3:08.34. The Explorers’ Tarik Gusic, Nicolas Medvedev, Jedbratt and Perkins collected second in 3:10.99. St. Bonaventure’s team of Grant Chapa, Mark Polos, Mark Mizsei and Emanuele Zingaro finished third in 3:14.16.  

The A-10 Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship concludes Saturday with the preliminary rounds at 10 a.m. The final events begin at 6 p.m.
