TYSONS, Va. -- A four-run eighth inning sealed a victory for seventh-seeded Dayton 9-2 over the sixth-seeded Fordham Rams on Thursday at Capital One Park in the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship.
The Flyers will face No. 4 Davidson at 7:00 pm, Thursday in an elimination game in the consolation bracket.
Dayton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Ryan MacDougall singled in Adin Zorn and Bobby Stang followed with a two-run double. The Flyers added a run in the second on an RBI-single by Rylan Lujo.
J.J. Gatti (5-4) pitched six innings with eight strikeouts, five walks and four hits in the win, allowing just one run in the outing.
Dayton loaded the bases in the eighth and a walk to Ty Mainolfi brought in a run. Michael DiMartini and Lujo followed with back-to-back base hits to drive in Dyrenson Wouters, Aiden Heberlie and Mainolfi.
Tommy Markey added a solo home run in the seventh and an RBI-double in the eighth for Fordham. Markey finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.
Mike Rabayda was tagged for four runs (one earned) on six hits in seven innings. He registered three strikeouts and walked three batters.
