Morris, Strong Offense Propel Minutewomen to 17th Straight A-10 Women's Lacrosse Title Game

RICHMOND, Va. – Kassidy Morris scored five times to anchor a relentless Massachusetts offense that topped fourth-seeded Richmond, 16-11 Friday in the Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Championship semifinals at Robins Stadium.

The Minutewomen (14-3) advance to the A-10 Championship final for the 17th straight time, ripping 32 shots, 26 of which were on goal. Morris, the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, took nine of those shots, and added two assists to her five-goal outing. Ava Connaughton added four goals and an assist.

Morris opened the scoring just over four minutes into the game, sparking an early 3-2 UMass lead at the end of the first. But it was a one-sided second quarter where the Minutewomen took control. Five goals, including two from Connaughton, gave UMass a 9-5 lead. Delaney Rodriquez-Shaw and Dylan Lyons, both of whom scored in the first period, also score in the second-half push.

Richmond (11-8) surged late in the third into the fourth after Morris tallied two more, closing to within four goals on multiple occasions behind Grace Muldoon, Charlotte Edwards and Juliana Stanley. Alexi Morton scored twice late as well, but the Spiders weren’t able to complete the rally.

UMass had the advantage in draw controls (17-12) caused turnovers (8-5) and ground balls (12-9).

Morton had four goals to lead Richmond, and Muldoon tallied two goals and two assists. Abby Francioli made 10 saves for UR. Catrina Tobin made three saves for the Minutewomen, and Jordan Dean tallied a game-high 10 draw controls.
