No. 1 Richmond Handles No. 4 UMass, 14-4 to Advance to Third-Straight #A10MLAX Title Game

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Twelve different players scored a goal to lead No. 1 Richmond to a convincing 14-4 win over No. 4 Masschusetts in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals at Sweeney Field on Thursday.

This marks the third-straight season that the Spiders have reached the Atlantic 10 Title game, while Richmond moves to 12-3 on the season and a perfect 6-0 against A-10 opponents. Richmond will face the winner of No. 2 High Point and No. 3 Saint Joseph's in Saturday's title game. UMass ends their season at 9-6 overall. 

Richmond scored the games first seven goals and then only allowed one to have a comanding lead at the end of the first quarter. The A-10 Midfielder of the Year Max Merklinger started off the scoring just a minute into the contest and the Spiders rattled off six more in the rest of the frame. Caelin Lewis opened the tallies for the Minutemen right before the end of the first quarter, his first of three goals on the day. 

The Spiders had a 10-2 lead at the break and coasted to a 14-4 win. The A-10 Goalkeeper of the Year Zach Vigue had 10 goals to only four allowed, a .714 save percentage. Richmond won 16 of 22 faceoffs, led by 10 from Jared Chenoy.

Richmond is ranked No. 10 in the nation and will play for its second A-10 title on Saturday.
