WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized the Saint Joseph's duo of graduate attacker Richie LaCalandra and freshman attacker Ben Dutton as its Under Armour Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week. Richmond graduate defender Mitchell Dunham was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week. The awards, announced Monday are for games played between March 17-23, where Richmond topped No. 13 Georgetown and Saint Joseph's beat No. 17 Penn.
LaCalandra tallied 10 points on the week for the Hawks for a 2-0 performance. The Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. native scored two goals and added three assists against #17 Penn before another two goals and three assists against Providence. The graduate student has scored at least five points in each of the past five games. LaCalandra has won three of the last four Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Dunham tallied six ground balls and five caused turnovers in #14 Richmond's 13-12 win over #13 Georgetown. The Hamilton, Ontario native helped hold Georgetown to only four goals in the first half.
Dutton combined for nine goals in two games to help the Hawks move to 2-0 on the week. The Denver, Colo. native recorded a hat trick against #17 Penn. Set a freshman single-game record for the Hawks with six goals in the win over Providence. The freshman has scored five consecutive hat tricks, scoring multiple goals in each of his last eight games and is one goal shy of tying the program's freshman single-season record for goals.
