WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Richmond sophomore Michael Elko as its Under Armour Baseball Player of the Week. George Mason graduate student Connor O’Hara was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week and Davidson freshman Jamie Daly was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Monday, are for games played from March 10-16.
Making four starts, three behind the plate, Elko went 11-for-15 for .733, with 11 RBI, four doubles, three home runs, three walks, and scored seven runs. The College Station, Texas, product had a three-run homer against Longwood and then repeat the feat in the first game Saturday against St. Bonaventure. In total, he went yard three times and he had seven extra bases in the four Spider wins.
O’Hara, a right-hander from Davie, Fla., tossed a complete-game five hitter, all singles, in the Patriots 8-0 win over Dayton in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 at Spuhler Field. It was his second complete game of the season. O’Hara struck out six and walked just one, faced only 33 batters and threw 104 pitches in the outing. He didn’t allow more than one baserunner in the first seven innings, and only three runners reached second base in the game.
Daly hit .462 (6-for-13) with a 1.357 OPS, four RBI and a home run in a 2-1 series win versus UMass. An outfielder from Evans, Ga., Daly also had four walks in the series, five total runs, and had two hits in each game.
